Each week, I have been summarizing my adventures in making music. Lately, I have been composing tracks for the Disquiet Junto, the Naviar Records Haiku Music Challenge and, this year for the first time, Weekly Beats. I also have other projects and collaborations I have shared occasionally. This blog primarily contains slightly annotated posts originally found on Mastodon.
I worked in 7 and 5 for the past couple of weeks, so this week I decided to start in 6. I set the project at 6/8 and drew in different beats until I found one that I felt grooved. I intentionally used two different sets of kick and snare sounds for a quiet-loud-quiet-loud effect. The vocal samples are just a female vocalist improvising, but in the way that I arranged them, I hear the phrases, "So Crazy" and "Come Get Me." There's no meaning behind it, but I like the sound. The glitchy sounds in the breakdown and outro are actually from an attempt I made to record live drums for this track. I was surprised when I played along to the beat how difficult it was to keep up with something that I actually wrote and was actively working on! I scrapped my takes, but took one of the overhead mic recordings, reversed it, stretched it out so it was double its length and I liked the effect.
